In 1969, I was a high school student in Scotland and participated in an ESU exchange program with students from Kentucky. En route to Kentucky, we spent one night in New York. Times Square at night in the late 60's was an eye-opening experience for a 16 year old from a small Scottish town. 51 years later, I am still in touch with my Louisville exchange partner. Ironically, he left the U.S. for the South Island of New Zealand (very similar in nature to Scotland) and I left Scotland for California. I have always been grateful to the ESU for broadening my horizons.
