In 2017 my student, Ogechi Egonu, won the ESU National Shakespeare Competition. This was an incredible moment in her life, and the most meaningful event in my life as a teacher. Ogechi had never performed Shakespeare before she took my acting class. Once she learned how to unlock the language, she was a confirmed Shakespeare lover. She won our School level ESU competition for the next three years, won the Regional, and then the National, performing Othello and Sonnet 18. Thank you, ESU, for giving this remarkable and deserving young woman, and so many students, this opportunity.
